Sitewide Settings

Color Options

By default, users of the UW Theme will have a few different color options. Namely, you can choose between the following:

  • White OR light gray background color for pages
  • White top bar with red menu bar OR red top bar with red menu bar

Header Options

Site Title

You can easily customize the Site Title on your website at any time. By default, it will show up in the Red Hat Display font and will appear next to the UW Crest. Its use is not optional.

Tagline

The tagline is a secondary line of text that you can add just below the Site Title to describe the contents of the site or define the site’s vision. The tagline is optional.

Menus

There are two menu areas defined in the header. The first is the main menu which appears just below the Site Title. The second is the utility menu in the top right corner of the page. Both areas can have dropdown menu items or standalone clickable links.

Search

The search options allow you choose whether to include search on the site, as well as a new option to use Google Search by default instead of the native WordPress search. If you prefer to use a Google Programmable Search Engine, you may enter its GCSE ID.

Google Integrations

Include tracking IDs for the following Google tools:

  • Google Analytics
  • Google Custom Search
  • Google Tag Manager
  • Google Search Console

Widgets

There is one “widgetized” area in this theme: the sidebar. By default, the sidebar will use some of WordPress’s standard widgets (e.g. Meta, Archives, Blogroll). Widgets can be added, removed or rearranged to suit your needs. (The Custom Menu widget can be a handy way to add a list or lists of links to your sidebar.)

Custom 404 Messaging

Oops! Page not found.

Create a regular page on your site to set as the default 404 message that gets displayed if someone searches for a page under your domain that doesn’t exist. The message can be customized using page builder tools as desired.
